Match Report
Kingswood College 1st XI vs  Woodridge College
On: Saturday, 01 Feb 2020
Venue: Away

The Kingswood 1st XI traveled to Woodridge College on Saturday. Both teams agreed to playing a new and exciting format called one day quarters. A 50 over game broken up into 4 quarters of 25 overs each. This format was the brainchild of Mr Iain Mctiffin (Woodridge Parent). Please see insert below:

"How can we make it more exciting and more importantly, how can we bring the strategy of 5 day into the 1 day format. Hence the introduction of QUARTERS.

The format is quite simple. It’s still a 1 day game of 50 overs per side yet it’s split into 25 overs per quarter. In other words the side batting first will bat for 25 overs then put the opposition in for 25, thereafter you will carry on with your last 25, after that your opposition will chase your final score in their last 25. Remember it is still a 1 innings game and not 2 innings once a batsman is out he’s out. "

RULES
1. POWER PLAYS: OVERS 1 TO 5 AND OVERS 21 TO 25 FIRST QUARTER
OVERS 26 TO 30 AND OVERS 46 TO 50 SECOND QUARTER
2. A BOWLER MAY ONLY BOWL A MAXIMUM OF 5 OVERS PER QUARTER.
3. WHOEVER IS NOT OUT AFTER 25 OVERS RESUMES BATTING IN THEIR 2 ND QUARTER
4. ONCE A BATSMAN IS OUT HE IS OUT, THIS IS STILL A 1 INNINGS GAME
5. ONLY 1 BALL IS TO BE USED FOR EACH TEAM, NO INTRODUCTION OF NEW BALL IN 2 ND
QUARTER.
6. IF RAIN HALTS PLAY AND THE FIRST QUARTERS OF BOTH SIDES HAVE BEEN PLAYED THE
TEAM WITH THE MOST RUNS AFTER QUARTER 1 IS THE WINNER REGARDLESS OF WICKETS
LOST.

Kingswood lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Kingswood got off to a solid start and finished the 1st Quarter on 77/3 in 25 overs. It was then Woodridge's turn to bat for the 2nd quarter (25 overs). Kingswood bowled and fielded with good discipline as they picked up 6 wickets while Woodridge scored 87 runs. This meant that Kingswood had 25 overs (3rd quarter) with 7 wickets in hand to bat past Woodridge and set them a score. Woodridge would then only have 4 wickets in hand as they attempted to win the game.

Kingswood lost 3 quick wickets at the start of the 3rd quarter thanks to some outstanding bowling from Ian Baart (3/15) . With a lead of only 12 runs and only 4 wickets in hand Kingswood were under massive pressure. The Kingswood lower order managed to hang around and push the lead out to 54 runs before they were all out.

In the final quarter Woodridge needed 54 runs for victory and Kingswood needed 4 wickets. The Kingswood team knew they had to be at their best if they were to win the game. Caleb Daniels was superb for Kingswood in the final quarter picking up 2/10. He was very well supported by Michael Fourie (2/9). Kingswood in the end won the match by 26 runs.
